Germany: Thousands of anti-TTIP activists rally in Hannover ahead of Obama visit

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Hannover, Saturday, to denounce the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) ahead of US President Barack Obama’s visit to the city.

During the protest, activists held banners and signs condemning the trade agreements. Local police reported that 35,000 people attended the demonstration however participants at the rally placed the number closer to 90,000. No incidents were reported by police.

    Obama will join German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the opening ceremony of the Hannover Messe 2016 at the Hannover Congress Centrum (HCC) on Sunday.
